If you have Plantar Fasciitis you will probably experience a sharp and at the base of your heel. It is often worst when standing after an extended period of rest. E.g. getting out of bed. The pain can be debilitating, it may feel like a stone is pressing into your heel. If this sounds like your condition, we are here to help!
If you have a Heel Spur, it’s most common site under the heel bone, it can also occur at the back of the heel, you may even have both. It is a calcified build up of bone, however keep in mind the spur itself is generally not the issue. The pain is caused by soft tissue attaching to the bone, most commonly where the plantar fascia attaches. Heel spur is so closely linked to plantar fasciitis.
In case your child has sever’s disease, they are most likely to be between the ages of 8 to 12 for girls, while 9 to 13 for boys. Pain is normally experienced towards the end of exercise. It can be bad enough that it changes the way they move, they might appear to be limping or standing on their toes after sport. It is usually worse after jumping or running sports, especially if done on hard surfaces, like basketball or netball. This can be something they grow out of, or it can be a serious problem because it effects the growth plate at the back of the heel bone. We always recommend having it assessed professionally, our Podiatrists are experts in this field.
Achilles Tendonopathy and Achilles Tendonitis are two very different conditions, both can affect anyone at any age and can be crippling. Our success rate in treating achilles problems is very high. Firstly we must differentiate between the conditions, then assess to determine why it occurred before recommending a treatment that will work.
